BorderPlus to Send 1,000 Indian Nurses to the GCC by FY27 as Demand Peaks

September 28, 2026

Introduction

With international healthcare employers offering increasingly competitive packages, Business Standard reported that BorderPlus is aiming to send around 1,000 Indian nurses to the Gulf Cooperation Council by FY27, as it expands beyond its established Germany pipeline.

The Rollout

BorderPlus planned to send its first cohort of 50 nurses within two to three months of the announcement, with onboarding for GCC-focused cohorts beginning by January 2026 through partnerships with hospitals in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The company is engaging more than 10 hospitals and medical facilities initially, with plans to add long-term care operators as its GCC pathway scales.

Why the GCC, Why Now

CEO Mayank Kumar told Business Standard that the GCC healthcare ecosystem is projected to need over 50,000 additional nurses by 2027, with demand growing 10 to 15 per cent annually and even faster in Saudi Arabia, at 20 to 25 per cent. India already supplies 25,000 to 30,000 nurses to the GCC each year roughly 45 to 50 per cent of the region’s foreign nurse workforce. Kumar noted that GCC salaries, while lower in absolute terms than Germany’s, offer comparable savings potential once tax-free income and sponsor-covered accommodation and transport are factored in.

Impact

For BorderPlus, the GCC expansion diversifies its business beyond Germany and sets up further growth into English-speaking markets such as the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. For Indian nurses, particularly the roughly 45 per cent of BorderPlus’s current cohort from Maharashtra, it opens a faster-deployment alternative to Germany’s longer language-preparation timeline, backed by the same end-to-end training, documentation, and visa support the company already provides.
