BorderPlus Maps Out Global Expansion with a Training-First Healthcare Mobility Model

September 29, 2026

Germany was BorderPlus’s starting point. It won’t be the endpoint. In a recent conversation with The PIE News, BorderPlus CEO and Co-Founder Mayank Kumar laid out how the company plans to build on its current footprint in Germany, the GCC, and Japan to reach a wider set of destination markets over the coming years.

The Expansion Plan

BorderPlus’s long-term roadmap includes the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, along with European markets such as Italy, France, and Spain, and further growth in South Korea. On the talent-sourcing side, the company currently trains candidates from India, Brazil, and the Philippines, with additional partnerships already underway in Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Egypt. Explore BorderPlus’s expansion into new global placement corridors already taking shape across Japan and the GCC.

Why BorderPlus Is Expanding Now

The push comes as healthcare systems worldwide face a widening staffing gap. The World Health Organization’s State of the World’s Nursing 2025 report projects a shortfall of more than four million nurses globally by 2030, even accounting for workforce growth. Ageing populations across many developed economies are compounding the problem, a trend the OECD has flagged as a long-term structural issue rather than a temporary shortage. For BorderPlus, this isn’t a distant market opportunity — it’s the same underlying problem the company was built to solve, just showing up in more countries at once. Having proven the model in Germany and the GCC — building the training, language, licensing, and compliance infrastructure needed to move a nurse from an Indian classroom to a European hospital ward — the company sees the next phase as replicating that same infrastructure in new markets, rather than starting from scratch each time. Widening the sourcing base beyond India to Brazil, the Philippines, Uzbekistan and Egypt are part of the same logic: matching a broader pool of source-country talent to a broader set of destination-country shortages.

BorderPlus’s Perspective

“The shortage cannot be solved by just sending nurses abroad,” Kumar said. “It can be solved if we are building the training, certification, compliance, language and licensing ecosystem. If you do everything and manufacture talent, that’s where India has a strong opportunity to become a talent capacity for the global ecosystem.” He also pointed to differences between markets — Germany requiring deeper language preparation but offering stronger long-term economics, versus the GCC allowing faster deployment with lower language requirements. “Germany is a value market,” he said. “The Middle East is more of a volume market.” That distinction, he suggested, is exactly why BorderPlus is building market-specific pathways rather than a single, one-size-fits-all model as it expands.

Technology Behind the Expansion

Central to this scaling plan is BorderPlus’s AI-powered Nurse Companion, which lets candidates rehearse real clinical and workplace scenarios — including conversations with patients, family members, and hospital staff — before they ever land in their destination country. The company says it has already built out roughly 1,000 hours of simulated clinical scenarios through the tool, infrastructure it expects to lean on heavily as it adds new destination countries with their own language and cultural requirements.
