BorderPlus’s Mayank Kumar on Why AI Is Turning Workforce Mobility Into Infrastructure

September 29, 2026

Recruitment is increasingly commoditised, but readiness is not. In an interview with CIO&Leader, BorderPlus co-founder Mayank Kumar explained why the company focuses less on finding candidates and more on making sure they’re ready to work abroad.

The Learn, Ask, Do System

With only 35 to 40 German teachers available to train candidates at scale, BorderPlus built an AI-powered system with three layers. ‘Learn’ takes nurses from vocabulary drills to full clinical-scenario conversations, built from interviews with over 100 nurses working in German hospitals. ‘Ask’ is an operational support layer nurses can use in India and after they arrive in Germany, answering practical workflow questions using rules based on Germany’s SGB social code and MDK guidelines. ‘Do’ automates clinical documentation, transcribing spoken interactions into compliance-checked written records. Together, these layers sit inside BorderPlus’s AI-powered Nurse Companion.

Why BorderPlus Is Betting on This

Kumar argues that conventional staffing businesses aggregate supply but never build capability, which keeps them transactional. BorderPlus’s defensibility, by contrast, comes from owning the preparation layer itself training systems built for real outcomes rather than theoretical instruction. He also flagged diversification as a hedge against geopolitical uncertainty, pointing to Germany, the GCC, Japan, and eventually English-speaking markets such as Australia, Ireland, Canada, and the UK. Impact

For hospitals, the pitch is fewer documentation errors and faster productivity from newly placed nurses. For nurses themselves, it means arriving in Germany having already rehearsed the conversations, protocols, and paperwork they will face on day one with human oversight kept firmly in place for every decision that requires it.
